Buying Land

I am looking to buy some land in the Cheshire area. Hopefully it will be between 5 and 10 acres. I need a private mortgage. I will pay interest, and a re-payment of the loan over a period of time. All offers considered. Obviously the owner will have a full charge on the property, until the loan is paid.

Tudor Period

I think the Tudor period, is one of the periods I like making finds from most.

Michael Wood, BBC 4

There is a programme on BBC4 this Wednesday, presented by Michael Wood, about tracing the history of a village. Hopefully, it should be good.

Metal detecting yesterday

I went out metal detecting yesterday. It was not much good. I found lots of iron with my Fisher 1266x. Just one of those days!

Going out on Wednesday

I'm hopefully going out on Wednesday, to a promising site. It'll be an early rise, as it is some distance away. I've got a metal detecting club meeting on Wednesday night aswell. It's going to be a busy day!

The season is almost here!

Metal detecting can be carried out throughout the year, but the metal detecting season generally starts in about August in England, when the farmers pull their crops out. I think the best land to detect on is short stubble (when the cereal crop has been cut). The days are still long in August and September, and it makes for wonderful detecting. Protection from the sun is still needed though, and I like to metal detect in the morning or late afternoon/early evening.

I've hopefully got different sites throughout England to go on, and may go on an odd rally (so I may see you there!).

Metal Detecting on the Thames Foreshore

'Pimple' button

A 'pimple' button, found whist metal detecting. It probably dates to the 17th. Century.

Finding buttons and buckles on a farm, can indicate that there are other items waiting to be found. If you find a button from a certain period on a field, there is a chance, that there are coins from that period on that field.

Tudor button

This is a button, probably from the Tudor period, found on farmland, whilst metal detecting.

Jeton from last 'trip' away.

Below are images of the obverse and reverse of a medieval jeton I found, on my last couple of days away.

Two Trips Planned

I've got plans to travel to two different parts of England, to carry out some detecting in September. Why do farmers have to sow crops, and I have to wait? Only joking!

Metal Detecting On The Beach

I've now got my permit from the Crown Estate, to metal detect on some of their 'beaches'.

Metal Detecting Rally

There is a metal detecting rally, I could go to this weekend. Rallies aren't my kind of thing. I won't be going.

Here's an image of the obverse and reverse

It appears to be a King Richard 1 or King John cut-halfpenny of the Canterbury mint.

I went metal detecting last week!

I did a bit of metal detecting last week. I'll post an image of a cut-half hammered coin later.

Roman Coin

A Roman coin I found last year, was given to my local Finds Liaison Officer this month; it will be identified and recorded. The coin is not worth much financially, but can help us learn more about Roman Britain.

I need to get out again!

Hi,

The last time I was out metal detecting was in Suffolk. There's a rally coming up in Cheshire soon, and I'll probably go to that.

Regards,

Colin
