Metal Detecting Getting Harder?

I've been out metal detecting recently, on a field that has been metal detected on for over 20 years. I haven't visited it too often, but a 'local' has been doing it. To say it was hard work, would be an under-statement. There were not many signals coming of it. There will still be 'finds', but they are few and far between. How many more fields are out there like this?

I notice on recent rallies, on fields that have been done before, that not many finds ae coming up. Occasionaly, you may find a farm that has hardly been touched, but this probably won't happen too often. The 'friendly farmers' have generally been 'friendly' for years, and there aren't many finds left.

There is loads of stuff left to find in England, but it may well now be spread out on fields, or permission may be lacking.

I will still keep on trying!

Metal Detecting

There is not much land available to detect on, at the moment. Parkland can be awkward, because when the sun shines, it dries out the turf. Pasture can be very time-consuming. The sun can be dangerous and too hot, to metal detect in at times!

I think I'll wait until August, when the crops come out. Hopefully, I will get some photographs on here, of some of the finds.

There is not much happening in the 'detecting world' at the moment.

Iron Age Skeleton and Jewellery Discovered!

An Iron Age skeleton and jewellery have been found, by a metal detectorist, near Portesham in Dorset. There were fourteen items with the skeleton, including a coin, mirror and two brooches. The items were declared treasure at a 'treasure inquest', and were discovered on April 27th. last year; they are believed to date from between 15BC and AD 50-60, and found in a 'Durotrigian type grave'.

More can be read in the Dorset Echo, of today's date.

Vesica Seal

There is a vesica seal going on 'eBay' tonight, with what appears to be, the inscription-S' Alan Lemon.
This is a lovely example, and it is a metal detecting find. I've never found one of these, and I would love to.

Bures: Villagers look to buy medieval common - News - East Anglian Daily Times

I wouldn't mind metal detecting on this bit of common land. It would be lovely to catalogue the finds, and make a museum in the village. If the developer is reading this, or the potential purchasers, please feel free to email me.

Countryfile

There was a piece on Countryfile, yesterday, about metal detecting.

Knock Back!

Another knock-back unfortunately. The farmer unfortunately doesn't own the land, and the owner doesn't allow metal detecting.
