'From The Historical Chronicle 1755'
In an article in the Historical Chronicle part of the Gentleman's Magazine, on the 19th May, 1755 it states that: 'As one Clarridge, a labouring man, was digging on Finchley Common, he found six pieces of old gold coin;and telling it to some other people, they went to the place and found to the value of above 20/. [One that we have seenis a fair gold coinof Edward 11. or 111. weight about 19s. 6d. On one side, the king stands in a ship, with a drawn sword in his right hand, and a shield on his left, charged with the arms of France and England quarterly. Legend
